Call for Application: Force11 + DLF Cross-Pollinator Travel Award

Printer-friendly version

Deadline:  Monday, September 12, 2016   CLOSED

Dear FORCE11 Community:

You may remember that for this year’s FORCE16 Conference we created a new partnership with the Digital Library Federation (DLF) to support Cross-Pollinator travel awards. The goal is to bring scholars, scientists, software engineers, librarians, and humanists from DLF to Force11 conferences and vice versa, to provide unique perspectives in scholarly communication.

It is now time for a FORCE11 community member to travel to the DLF 2016 Forum in Milwaukee, WI, November 6-9.

The Digital Library Federation (DLF) is a “robust and diverse community of practitioners who advance research, learning, social justice, and the public good through digital library technologies.” DLF’s parent organization is the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). DLF is eager to promote interdisciplinary research and believes that cross-pollination is the key to sustainability and innovation. DLF therefore partners with diverse organizations to foster vibrant exchange of ideas and new partnerships and collaborations.

How to apply:

Please send an email to travelawards@force11.org including the required content. Please use the subject line “DLF16 Cross-Pollinator Travel Award: [Your Last Name]”.

1.  Contact information (including Twitter handle, if applicable)

2.  Brief, one-paragraph bio

3.  A one-paragraph statement about how attending this conference (the 2016 DLF Forum) might expand your professional horizons, what you hope to learn, and what skills or ideas you might bring back to the FORCE11 community.

4. Your curriculum vitae or resume as applicable.

The selected applicant should be a past FORCE or Beyond the PDF Conference participant or contributor interested in making connections with the DLF community. The selected applicant will receive up to $1200 in travel support and free DLF Forum registration as well as an invitation to special networking events, and should be willing to write a blog post about the experience, for cross-posting on DLF and FORCE11 channels.

Review of applications will begin Monday, September 12, 2016. Applicants will be notified a week later. The successful applicant must be able to travel to the conference for which the travel grant is awarded.

We would like to again thank the winner of the 2016 Cross-Pollinator travel award Joshua Finnell. You can read his FORCE16 conference reflection blog post on the following link: https://www.diglib.org/archives/11791/.
