Presentation Title:
PubPub - Open Publishing, Distributed Review, and Grassroots Journals
Description:
PubPub is a platform that enables the exploration of three core experiments: 1) Open, modern, and evolving publishing, 2) distributed and dynamic peer review, and 3) grassroots journals that serve as tools for curation rather than gatekeeping mechanisms. These experiments seek to uncover new paths and opportunities for truly collaborative and honest science. The platform, an open and free website, enables anyone to read, write, review, and publish. It provides incentives for data sharing, thoughtful peer reviews, and pre-experiment proposals. The goal is to create a space where communities can be truly productive and unbound by petty politics, technical interface limitations (e.g. data limits), and outdated review and reward practices. The session, as well as the demo, will provide an overview of the core goals motivating PubPub, the state of the research and platform, and a guide to how audience members can begin using PubPub to read, write, publish, and curate right away.
