Event check-in and course registration will be in the foyer outside the Palisades Ballroom on the Carnesdale Commons Building (map), starting 8:00 AM on Monday, August 5th.
There is a designated FSCI hospitality suite is located in DeNeve Building Birch Building Suite B6 on the 6th Floor. The hospitality suite is available for the comfort and relaxation of all FSCI participants. Come join your colleagues in casual conversation.
Slack: Much of the communication among FSCI attendees, both within classes and across the entire institute, happens on Slack. Many of you have already joined the FSCI2019 slack workspace. For those few who have not, Please join the channel “fsci19-general” We will be pinning helpful hints to the right side of the #fsci19-general channel during the institute, so check there for tips, updates and answers to questions.
We have set up a Slack channel for every FSCI course; all are welcome to self-enroll for the channel of your selected courses. To access your course channel, look for the word 'Channels' (not the (+) symbol) in the sidebar and you'll get a searchable list of available channels. Select the course you wish to join.

Q: What do I do if I lose my dorm key?
Lost room key cards can be replaced at the De Neve Housing Desk for a $10.00/fee, paid at the time of replacement.
Q: Where is the lost and found?
All lost and found items are given to the De Neve housing check-in conference desk which they keep for one week before turning over to UCLA Police. (If lost item was left in a Carnesale meeting room, please check with Sproul Hall Front Desk.)
Q: What is the proper attire / dress code for FSCI?
The summer institute attire is very casual - please dress comfortably, summer/beach attire. Shorts, T-shirts and flip flops are perfectly appropriate, but feel free to dress any way that you feel comfortable.

Los Angeles has an average temperature of 22°C (72°F) in August, with highs of 28°C (83°F) and lows of 16°C (61°F) after dark. It's usually quite arid, and very rarely rains in the month of August. If you visit at this time of year you will need your summer wardrobe for the daytime, but for evenings out (and for air-conditioned meeting rooms), you may want to bring a warm layer.
