Materials science is a data-rich field, which is moving from being mostly done by individuals in the lab, to becoming a distributed data science. To facilitate data reuse, the structuring of methods and research results during measurement would be immensely beneficial, but there are currently no good Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) tools that are openly available to support materials science workflows. We are interested in holding a hackathon to modify existing ELNs, or build ELNs from scratch, to accommodate use cases that fit within a typical materials science experiments. The money would be used to convene the hackathon at a key lab, and cover (some) travel expenses, pizza, and beer.
