Rewarding Reproducibility and Method Publishing the GigaScience Way

Author / Presenter

Scott Edmunds

As experiments become more data and computationally-intensive, there are increasing technical challenges in reviewing and publishing the methods and outputs of scientific research. The traditional method of scientific publication is progressively becoming an outdated medium for disseminating the work performed by scientists. Data publication can incentivize and credit scientists who make their experimental data available to their community. However, similar mechanisms are needed to reward the reproducibility of research results that is made possible by the sharing of source code and data analyses. GigaScience, through its integrated online journal, GigaDB repository and Giga-Galaxy workflow systems provides a platform to do this, and we will present published examples of this approach, which has an aim of moving publishing towards the goal of executable papers.
