Triage & Skimming: Accelerating the process of reading

Author / Presenter

Gully Burns

We present two practical systems designed to accelerate the speed of accessing published information. The SciKnowMine Triage system is a digital library system with a built-in document classifier for use by biocurators to triage documents based on features that they are able to select. This system is designed for use as a prototype within the Mouse Genome Informatics environment. SKIMMR (standing for ‘Skim-Machine-Reading’) is a system that performs a form of superficial concept extraction from article abstracts to construct a graph that a user may browse (‘skim read’) to examine the contents of a large corpus of documents easily.
