Scholarpedia is like Wikipedia, but by and for scientists and scholars. It has more than 800 completed peer-reviewed "living entries" by Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners, with many more in development. The advantage of a separate scholarly wiki is that academics can continue to target their peers with their writing and can get academic credit for their contributions (because their contributions are equivalent to publishing in a peer-reviewed journal).
I'm a PhD Candidate in Cogntiive Science at UC San Diego. I joined Scholarpedia as a volunteer in December 2008, and began working there in September 2009. I have a keen interest in improving scholarly communication.
