Nicky has spent her career exploring the possibilities of open and ethical publishing models; expanding the definition and recognition of scholarly praxis; and rethinking evaluation and assessment in higher education. She is the assistant university librarian for research data and digital scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania Libraries, and has held prior roles at Columbia University, where she was assistant director for scholarly communication, and at the Modern Language Association, where she was head of digital initiatives, responsible for Humanities Commons, MLA Commons, and CORE. She is a co-PI on HuMetricsHSS project, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication. She was a founding editor of The Idealis, an overlay journal that promotes quality open-access scholarship about scholarly communications issues and is a member of the steering committee for the Force11 Scholarly Communication Institute.
